Meinard Frank Guza

Meinard F. Guza, age 93, of Bad Axe, was born into eternal life on Sunday, April 11, 2021, the feast of Divine Mercy. Meinard passed from this life peacefully in his sleep at home with his wife Georgeana by his side and his children praying beside him. Born on September 19, 1927, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Meinard was the second child of six born to the late Edmund and Elizabeth (Swartz) Guza. He married Georgeana Paionk on February 13, 1954, in Warren, Michigan. Meinard was a man of profound faith. He trusted God to provide for his 12 children. And he exemplified to his family the importance of putting God first. He was a hardworking farmer, although he did have other occupations, and he humbly and jokingly referred to himself as “a jack of all trades but master of none.” Meinard was honored to serve his country during the Korean War and remained grateful for the experiences it afforded him. Over the years he was involved in politics and was a fervent advocate for pro-life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. Meinard had a wonderful sense of humor which will be sorely missed by those who knew him, and perhaps even greater was his sense of warmth and hospitality toward others. He enjoyed dancing, card playing, and in his later years growing flowers and tinkering in his garage. Meinard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Georgeana, and their twelve children: Denise (Don) Rice; Sister Cynthia Agnes, FSP; Marcus (AnneMarie); Sister M. Stella, OMVF; Brother David, MIC; Michael (Beth); Teresa (Tim) Messing; Douglas (Kelley); Gregory (Christine); Meinard; Matthew (Beverly); and Kimberly (Jeffrey) Jameson. Meinard loved his 46 grandchildren and their spouses. The children of Denise and Donald Rice: Ted, Kathy, Paul, Valentine, Antoinette, Michelle, Rosemary, Caroline, and Sarah. The children of Michael and Beth Guza: Aaron, Amanda, Amy Jo, Andrew, and Michaela. The children of Teresa and Tim Messing: Gabriel, Sylvia, Georgie, Jonathan, Martin, Joseph, Michael, Mary, Timothy, and Peter. The children of Douglas and Kelley Guza: Monica, Emily, and Benedict. The children of Gregory and Christine Guza: Anne, Rebecca, Claire, Desirae, Elijah, Fabian, Gregory, Isaac, Joseph, Kristopher, Nathan, and Olyssa. The children of Matthew and Beverly Guza: Matthew, Rosalia, Derrick, Hosanna, JonPaul and Stephen. Meinard also has sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Clara and Harold Booms and Francis and George Lawrence, his brother Martin Guza and sisters-in-law Shirley Guza and Andrea Piotrowski. Preceding Meinard in death was grandson Hunter Guza. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Edna Paionk, his brothers Edmund Guza and Cletus Guza, brothers-in-law Frank Smaglinski and James Piotrowski , and sisters-in-law Jeanette Guza and Marion Smaglinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Hubert Parish – Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Visitation will be Wednesday, April, 14, 2021 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe and Thursday at the church from 9:00 am until the service time at 10:00 am. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be offered on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered. The family would like to extend their thanks to the dedicated Compassus staff.
