Anna Viola Hollister
April 7, 1919 - December 25, 2017
Anna Viola Kinde Hollister, age 98, of Bad Axe, passed away on December 25, 2017 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe, Michigan. She was the daughter of John and Ida Kinde of Bad Axe. She was the wife of Leland C. Hollister. She was very proud that the Kinde family helped settle the Thumb area. For many years, she worked with her sister and parents in the Kinde Children’s store in Bad Axe. She was also proud of the fact that she helped the Sheltered Workshop become productive. It is now known as Thumb Industries. She started their thrift store and also acquired many contracts for the workers to fulfill. She took no salary. Later she worked with her son, John, at the Tip A Thumb Canoe and Kayak Rental in Port Austin. In her free time she loved to sew. Many people in town have her pillows and potholders made from recycled upholstery fabric. Needless to say, she will be missed. Anna is survived by 2 children, Annah L. Ellinwood (Steve) of Fort Myers, FL and John C. Hollister of Port Austin. Other survivors include one grandson, Jeff of Hutto, TX, four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death by her husband Leland C. Hollister, her parents, Ida and John Kinde, sisters Sarah Kinde and Hazel Parsch and one great granddaughter, Emilee Clark. Services will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at noon at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 am until the service time at noon. Private burial will take place in Colfax Cemetery of Bad Axe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Thumb Industries in Anna’s name.
