Donald Schuman

May 17, 1927 - February 15, 2022

Donald Frederick Schuman, age 94, of Bad Axe, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Don was born on May 17, 1927 in Sigel Township to the late William and Matilda (Thuemmel) Schuman. He married Arvilla Etzler at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Midland on December 3, 1949. Don farmed all his life in Sigel Township. He was an officer in the local Adams School Board as well as a member of the Huron County Board of Education. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kinde for many years before transferring to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Don is survived by his wife, Arvilla Schuman of Bad Axe. Four sons – Larry (Ellen) Schuman of Presque Isle, Denis Schuman of Sandusky, Arnold Schuman of Bad Axe and Kenneth (Cheryl) Schuman of Munger. Two daughters – Diane (James) Trelewski of Bay City and Catherine Apley of Bad Axe. Ten grandchildren – Daniel (Emily) Schuman of Ada, Leah (Larry) Reid of Marquette, Keith Schuman of Bad Axe, Ashley Schuman of St. Louis, MO, William (Ashley Evon) Schuman of Freeland, Christopher (Stacy) Trelewski of Bay City, Jennifer (Jeremy) Johnson of Saginaw, Donald (Pam Wolschlager) of Bad Axe, Michael (Rachel) Apley of Essexville, Jeremy (Maddy Brown) Apley of Filion. Seven great-grandchildren – Benjamin and Micah Schuman; Alexis Trelewski; Elliana and Lilyana Johnson; Zachary and Natalie Apley. Brother and sister-in-laws – Milton and Judy Etzler, Betty Schuman. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Matilda Schuman. Brother –Harold Schuman. Sister and brother-in-law – Evelyn and William “Jack” Ruby. Father and mother-in-law - Rueben and Helena Etzler. Daughter-in-law – Doraleth “Dodi” Schuman. Son-in-law – Larry Apley. Special thanks to caregivers Nicole and Wayne for taking such good care of Don over the last 15 months. Also a special thanks to Heather, Don’s A & D Hospice nurse, for all her help and support given to our family and professional care for Don. Funeral services for Don will be on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 12 noon at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Burial will be at Port Austin Township Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2-8 pm at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe or Monday at the church from 11 am until the service time at noon. Memorials may be offered to Our Savior Lutheran Church Sign Fund or the Lupus Foundation.
