Millard "Bill" Deering
October 19, 1926 - July 16, 2018
Millard “Bill” Deering, age 91 of Bad Axe, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018, at Courtney Manor Nursing Facility of Bad Axe after a short illness. Bill was born in Elkton on October 19, 1926, son of the late Jacob and Katherine (Frank) Deering, Sr. He attended Elkton High School, graduating in 1945. On August 19, 1950, he married Beatrice Buchholz at Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, Bill attended Deforest training in Chicago where he earned a degree in radio & TV repair. Shortly thereafter, he became a licensed electrician and opened Deering Electric. He also constructed Outer Drive Apartments and developed the Westland Subdivision. In 1980 he sold Deering Electric, at which time he built the Westland Duplexes and Amber Drive Condominiums. Bill was an avid fan of Tiger baseball and loved FOX News. He would want everyone to remember to, “Keep on smiling, because it looks good on you and it doesn’t cost anything.” Bill is survived by: His wife – Beatrice Deering of Bad Axe. Three Sons – Wayne (Gay) Deering of Kalamazoo, Ron (Rebecca) Deering of Empire and Bryan (Pam) Deering of Bad Axe. One Brother – Richard (Joyce) Deering of Sandusky. One Sister – Frances Spaeth of Ocala, FL. Seven Grandchildren. Five Great –grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by: Six Brothers – Edward, Jacob, Jr, Harold, Donald, Gerald and Ralph Deering. Two Sisters – Ada Hutchinson and Ester Schweitzer. Services will be held Friday, July 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe. Officiating will be Rev. Kenneth Lueke. Burial with military honors will be in Cross Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pigeon. Friends may call at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe on Thursday, July 19, 2018, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. or Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. A vigil celebration of Bill’s life will be offered on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
